Following Monday's greatly upsetting incident, I have been reflecting on my casting prowess when it comes to the adaptations of my own projects.
In another world, I think I would have made an excellent Casting Director. Apparently, I still could because writers are notoriously badly paid and have to work second jobs, but this seems like a problem for other writers because, much like Renata in Big Little Lies, I will not not be rich.
Whilst I know who I would pick for Bond, and it's a damn sight more inspired than Aaron Taylor-Johnson, I have also learned that when you are with a project for over ten years, your understanding of the reality of the time it takes for a film adaptation to be made, or indeed, how to write a book good enough to be adapted into a film, grows with you.
All this is to say, I have long learned to leave my very current (and therefore quickly dated) casting choices at the door.
